3-6歲的幼童藉由身體經驗探索世界，同時為活動力十足之年齡，不應被傳統教室空間拘束。因此本設計目標將教室延伸至半戶外或戶外活動空間，讓兒童自由奔跑於室內外空間以及兩者間的中介空間。成大校園擁有許多老樹，加上南部氣候長時間炎熱，樹下空間往往提供微風、遮陰，所以人們常利用空間來進行活動，我們由此發想出木構造大棚架下的幼兒空間。藉由可活動的頂天立地玻璃窗樘，夏季時大面積開窗讓微風吹入棚架室內，並讓活動自然向戶外老樹下與草坪延伸，冬季時打開通氣窗提供室內環境新鮮空氣。因此木構造的大棚架提供可遮陰的半戶外空間或關閉成為室內空間提供多重活動的可能，同時達到建築節能之需求。大棚架與戶外地景連結一氣，讓建築成為地景延續皮層 ( 棚架 ) 下的空間，棚架下的盒子是上課的教室，行政空間位於最底層的基座 (podium)。基座將大棚架與教室盒子撐在其上並與戶外遊憩空間在不同的高度上互相連結，讓幼兒時而在棚架上或棚架下的戶外及半戶外空間以及最外部的大草坪穿梭，活動，學習。幼兒的生活因此有了無限可能。木構的棚架讓幼兒如同在溫暖的大樹下學習，木窗樘把建築與戶外綠意連成一氣，並直接表露木構造的美感。透過平衡木與混凝土的軟與硬，以及建築與地景的結合，讓建築美學融於空間，成為幼童與教師學習生活裏的一環。

Children aged 3 to 6 explore the world through physical experience. At this energetic age, they should not be sitting in the conventional classroom. Therefore, our design aims to extend the classroom into semi-outdoor and outdoor areas, allowing children to run freely among the interior, the exterior, and the transitional spaces in between. The NCKU campus is rich with old trees, and given Southern Taiwan’s long periods of hot weather, the spaces under these trees often provide a cool breeze and shade, making them popular spots for activities. Inspired by this, we developed the concept of a learning space under a large timber canopy. Through movable floor-to-ceiling glass windows, the space opens up in summer to let breezes in, naturally extending activities toward the old trees and the lawn. In winter, ventilation windows ensure fresh air circulation. The timber canopy thus offers a flexible environment—functioning as a shaded semi-outdoor space or enclosing to become an indoor room—offering multiple possibilities for activities while meeting energy-efficiency needs. The large canopy connects seamlessly with the outdoor landscape, allowing the architecture to act as an extended "skin" of the terrain. The classrooms are designed as "boxes" under this canopy, while administrative spaces are located in the podium at the base. This podium supports the canopy and classroom boxes, connecting them to outdoor play areas at different levels of heights. This arrangement allows children to weave through the canopy, the semi-outdoor spaces beneath it, and the large outer lawn, creating infinite possibilities for life and learning. The timber structure creates a warm atmosphere, much like learning under a large tree. Wood-framed window connect the architecture with the outdoor greenery, directly revealing the natural beauty of the wood structure. By balancing the "softness" of timber with the "hardness" of concrete, and integrating the architecture with the landscape, the building's aesthetics become a natural part of daily life for both children and teachers.
