The project is a renovation of a nearly fifty-years-old apartment in downtown Taipei. The objectives were to bring proper scale to an existing layout that was too cramped and oppressive, and to introduce a perception of spaciousness more suitable to modern life and comfortable living.
By grouping the bathrooms and opening up the kitchen, as well as forgoing permanent partitions and walls, a flowing and expansive space emerged. Venetian plaster and light wide-plank wood flooring further enhances the perception of wide open space. Lastly, the three marble-clad islands become the centerpieces, providing subtle delineations for the living room, the dining room, and the kitchen.
